Politics and International Relations has an international reputation for research excellence delivering real-world impact. Research is embedded in everything we do, especially our teaching. Using an interdisciplinary approach, our research offers a critical analysis of political decisions made in the UK and globally, which affect people’s sense of place, their movement and their human rights. Whether it is exploring global security challenges or the security governance system on the European continent, examining government policies on managed migration or measuring regional policies on access to healthcare in South America, our researchers are asking important questions about how politics and international relations affect our lives. Our research and our experts, some of whom are among the top 20 highly cited political scientists in the world, also help policymakers make informed decisions by providing quality evidence that changes political methodologies or acts in an advisory role to parliamentary committees.

Dr Kamil Zwolski is Associate Professor in International Politics and Jean Monnet Chair of European Security Governance. He is also Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Dr Zwolski’s current research and education activities revolve around the European Commission’s Jean Monnet Chair award, which he received in 2019. These activities involve conducting research for a new book on European security as well as promoting research-based teaching in European studies. Dr Zwolski’s latest book, European Security in Integration Theory (2018), shows how international integration theories developed after World War I (federalism and functionalism) should be revisited today, particularly in the context of the troubled European-Russian relations and the conflict in Ukraine. |
