PISM (Poland)
The Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) is a leading Central European think tank and independent expert public research institution that carries out the mission of promoting Polish foreign policy and exploring international relations. Positioning itself between the world of politics and independent analysis, PISM provides analytical support to Polish decision-makers and diplomats, initiates public debate and disseminates expert knowledge about contemporary international relations. The Institute carries out its own research, cooperates on international research projects, prepares reports and analyses and collaborates with institutions with a similar profile in many countries.
PISM International Security Programme’s area of expertise includes analysis of nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction (with a special emphasis on nuclear weapons), the operation of nonproliferation regimes, missile defence, disarmament and the activities of NATO and the EU in these areas. Apart from membership in the EU Non-Proliferation Consortium network, PISM’s collaborative efforts in the field of non-proliferation and disarmament include a partnership with the European Leadership Network for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (ELN).

Marcin A. Piotrowski is a senior analyst at the Research Office of the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) and is responsible for analysis of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and the Gulf region. Mr. Piotrowski has authored or co-authored numerous publications about different aspects of Polish and Russian security policies, NATO, Central Asia and the Middle East. During the period 1999–2011, he was in the Polish Diplomatic Service, first at the Department of Strategy and Policy Planning of the MFA and later at the Polish Embassy in Washington, D.C. Between 2009 and 2011, he was the Polish Liaison Officer to the Office of the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mr. Piotrowski was granted a Ph.D. (2005) and an M.A. (1998) in international relations as well as an M.A. (1999) in the social and political sciences from the Warsaw University, Faculty of Journalism and Political Science . He also is a graduate of the Warsaw University, National Security Faculty. |

Marcin Terlikowski is head of International Security Programme and holds PhD degree in economics. Since 2007 he has been a research fellow at PISM, and since 2013 he is a coordinator of International Security Programme. In 2016 he defended a PhD thesis prepared in the Warsaw School of Economics and analyzing defence industrial policy. He is the author of numerous policy reports and academic papers, and co-led a number of collaborative research programs, including: The evolving concept of security: A critical evaluation across four dimensions EvoCS (2014-15), National and European Governance: Polish and Norwegian Cooperation Towards More Efficient Security, Energy and Migration Policies – GoodGov (2013-2016). |
